Mini poems

Sleep

When light exits the scene

And all that’s left is my tired mind

I lay myself down

Though I can never rest

Shadowy figures fill my head

And rest their hands upon my neck

Brain

I pay full attention

I don’t see very well though

My eyes don’t seem to be as good as before

It’s all very hazy

Blurry sentences and numbers

Could my mind be at fault?

No, surely it’s not that

I must need more carrots

Hibiscus

Yesterday you bloomed

Tomorrow you will wither

But today you live

And you feel the warmth on your petals

The bees surround you

Humming gently

As time flows, quiet and firm

Slowly wasting you

Effigy

I made you from straw and mud

You look just like me

My proudest creation

Yet recently

You won’t do as I say

Won’t you act as I do?

Your differences are appalling

I made you in my image

Remember the hands that forged you

A mirror is all you’re meant to be
