Nothing was ever as warm as that cold river water
The slippery rocks never once felt dangerous
Fish that swam by produced neon colors on the water's surface
When the summer approached
Watermelon and corn were all in the streets
Always just enough to share between the 3 of us
The mountains became our 2nd home
We saw seasons shifting in real time
Snow melting into the river
Daffodils bursting into life by the bank
When the frogs came out of hiding
We knew the cold was over
Lupine would create tapestries over the hills
And mountain fog would coat it all
In the mystery of life
And though we’ve all drifted apart
Though we’ve all moved away
We take what we learned with us
And our memories guide us forever.
